Located in the north Italian province of Veneto, this proposal for a school is inspired by the traditional pitch roof workshops of the Venetian boat makers. A timber structure and ceramic roof tiles become the distinctive elements of the design creating a learning space that finds its roots in the history of the local crafts.

The contemporary use of engineered timber creates a light-weight structure that supports a roof clad with ceramic tiles and glazed strips that protect the classroom from the hot Italian summers, while allowing natural light to flood the space. The frame-less glazed façade faces north and offers unique views to the lagoon.
